Magnitude 5 earthquake hits Batangas, felt in Metro Manila

A MAGNITUDE 5.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Calaca, Batangas, on Friday morning and was felt in various parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Damage and aftershocks are expected following the earthquake, which occurred at 8:24 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said in a bulletin. 

The earthquake, whose epicenter was located 14 kilometers southwest of Calaca, had a depth of focus of two kilometers.

The recorded intensities are the following: 

Intensity V – Batangas City, and Lemery, BATANGAS
Intensity IV – CITY OF MUNTINLUPA; Sta. Teresita, BATANGAS
Intensity III – City of Tagaytay, CAVITE; Talisay, San Jose, City of Lipa, Padre Garcia, and Laurel, BATANGAS
Intensity II – City of General Trias, CAVITE; Pateros, METRO MANILA; QUEZON CITY; CITY OF VALENZUELA; CITY OF PASAY; Obando, and City of Meycauayan, BULACAN; Santa Cruz, and San Pablo, LAGUNA
Intensity I – CITY OF PASIG; CITY OF CALOOCAN
