Lyric video of Daniel Padilla’s ‘Malay Ko’ released

by Joanna Deala

STAR Music dropped a lyric video for “Malay Ko,” one of the theme songs in the hit romance film “The Hows of Us,” sung by Daniel Padilla.

The record label released the four-minute video after Padilla and his reel-to-real partner Kathryn Bernardo confirmed their breakup on November 30, after 11 years of dating.

The lyric video was released on the same day, but the song was first dropped in 2018.

“Malay Ko” talks about a person longing for his loved one whom he left. A part of the lyrics goes: “Ako’y nagtataka naiiba; Ang aking nadarama; Buhay ko’y nagkagulo; Mula nang ika’y iwanan ko.”

Padilla and Bernardo had been paired up in numerous projects, both on small and big screens, since their first television series in 2011.

Their successful team up was well-received by the public and had earned them multiple accolades, including their Box Office King and Queen awards that they first received in 2017 for their 2016 movie “Barcelona: A Love Untold.”

The two celebrities, popularly known as KathNiel, made history when “The Hows of Us” became the first Filipino-produced film to reach over P600 million in domestic ticket sales, according to Star Cinema.

Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, the 2018 film also earned numerous awards, including the Best Actress awards for Bernardo from the 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies and Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards for Movies or The Eddys in 2019.

In “The Hows of Us,” Bernardo and Padilla play the role of high school sweethearts Georgina and Primo, whose relationship has been tested by different changes in life as they pursue their own dreams.

The “Hows of Us” is the last KathNiel movie before they confirmed their split.
