by Joanna Deala

ACTRESS Liza Soberano’s first Hollywood movie finally has a release date.

American film production company Focus Features dropped a 20-second video teaser of “Lisa Frankenstein” on its social media pages, announcing that the horror-comedy film will premiere in the U.S. theaters on February 9, 2024.

The teaser showed a woman operating a tanning bed, where a living corpse laid down.

“It’s giving unliving,” the production company said.

According to Focus Features’ website, “Lisa Frankenstein” centers on the love story between a “misunderstood” teenager and her high school crush who is a handsome corpse.

“After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness…and a few missing body parts along the way,” the plot read.

Soberano will star alongside Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse in the forthcoming film. They will be joined by Carla Gugino, Joe Chrest, and Henry Eikenberry.

Newton will portray the misunderstood teenager, while Sprouse will give life to the character of the handsome corpse.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Filipino actress will play the role of Taffy, who is the step-sister of Newton’s character.

“Lisa Frankenstein” is also the feature directorial debut of actress-filmmaker Zelda Williams. The film is written by Diablo Cody, who also wrote horror-comedy film “Jennifer’s Body” in 2009 and comedy-drama film “Juno” in 2007.

Soberano announced her participation in the new horror-comedy film in an Instagram post on August 12, 2022, where she shared a screenshot of a Deadline article about the cast of “Lisa Frankenstein.” She completed filming for the movie on September 17 of the same year.

Soberano’s last local film was the romantic-drama movie “Alone/Together,” where she starred with her boyfriend Enrique Gil.

Aside from her Hollywood debut, the actress also plans to enter the South Korean entertainment industry with the launching of her online travel series “Liza in Korea.”

Excited fans

Soberano’s fans expressed their excitement for the actress’ Hollywood debut. Some of them said that they could not wait to see Soberano’s performance in the forthcoming film.

Meanwhile, several netizens are wondering whether or not the film will be shown in the Philippines.

As of writing, there are no details yet on the film’s release date in the country.
