by Joanna Deala

SOUTH Korean boy group THE BOYZ became “The Stealer” during the Manila leg of their world tour, taking away the hearts of their Filipino fans.

THE BOYZ—composed of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Haknyeon, Sunwoo, and Eric—flew all the way to the Philippines to meet Filo Deobis for the “Zeneration II” concert held on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

This is the group’s third world tour, following “Zeneration” in 2023 and “The B-Zone” in 2022.

Many fans have not yet moved on from the concert, as fan cams of their favorite idols take over social media timelines.

Republicasia was at the “Zeneration II,” and we will transport you back to that joyful and fun-filled night spent with THE BOYZ.

THE BOYZ fan hub

Hours before the concert, many Filo Deobis were already at the venue to participate in THE BOYZ fan hub.

Fans gathered to show their love and support for the K-pop boy group through various activities they arranged for the fan hub.

These include a huge message board and polos where Deobis wrote their letters for THE BOYZ. Some gave away cute freebies and joined the games to win prizes.

One of the highlights of the fan hub was when fans showcased their dance prowess as they grooved to their idols’ discography, including “D.D.D.”

Strong opening performances

The sun went down and the most anticipated part of the day for Deobis came: the “Zeneration II” concert.

Screams erupted from the arena as THE BOYZ graced the stage to open the event with powerful opening performances.

The huge LED screen at the arena opened and showed the 11 K-pop stars clad in all-white ensembles.

They kicked off their concert with their performance of “Diamond Life,” which was part of their eighth mini album “BE AWAKE” in 2023.

It was followed by another explosive performance of “Out of Control,” a song in their sixth mini album “THRILL-ING” in 2021.

Fans went wild when THE BOYZ proved that they were “back in the game” when they performed their hit song “MAVERICK.”

PH’s historic win in Paris 2024

Following an all-out opening stage, THE BOYZ greeted Filipino fans during their ment.

“First of all, I want to say, Manila! I sincerely, sincerely missed you guys so, so much. How have you guys been?” asked Eric, the group’s youngest member.

“I have been doing so great because, to be honest, I missed you guys so much,” he said, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. “But since I’m here right now, I can’t be any happier and great to be back. Manila always feels like my hometown. I mean it, I mean it when I say this.”

THE BOYZ continued talking about Filipino Deobis, with Kevin bringing up the Philippines’ historic win at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The country bagged four medals in the international multi-sport event: two bronze medals won by boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio and two gold medals bagged by gymnast Carlos Yulo. The 24-year-old gymnast became the country’s first Olympian to win two gold medals in a single Olympic event.

“You guys had a moment in Paris,” THE BOYZ’s vocalist said. “Shout out to our man Carlos.”

Other members congratulated the Philippines for its historic victory at the Olympic Games.

Deobis dancing to ‘D.D.D’

During the concert, THE BOYZ shared the limelight when they asked their fans to dance with them during their “D.D.D” performance.

The boys stopped performing on stage before the song’s interlude to allow Filo Deobis to showcase their talents.

“Do you want to dance?” the members asked.

“We want to see your best moves. Show us what you’ve got!” they added.

The LED screen flashed a special frame for Deobis as the camera panned over the audience section, showcasing fans jumping while holding their light sticks high.

Jacob’s ‘Binibini’ cover

THE BOYZ made the night more memorable for their fans when they left them with a surprise.

Jacob melted the hearts of Filo Deobis with his sweet and angelic rendition of “Binibini,” the hit song of 22-year-old Filipino singer-songwriter Zack Tabudlo.

The Korean-Canadian singer sang the chorus part that goes, “Isayaw mo ako / Sa gitna ng ulan mahal ko / Kapalit man nito’y buhay ko / Gagawin ang lahat para sa’yo / Alam kong mahal mo na rin ako / Binibini.”

“Yesterday, I didn’t know the song’s meaning and I was singing it very passionately, but today I made sure, I think it is a love song,” said Jacob.

The vocalist also posted his “Binibini” cover on Instagram, which caught the attention of the original singer.

“Sick,” Zack commented, implying that it was cool or excellent.

Return to PH

THE BOYZ capped off their “Zeneration II” concert with “Fire Eyes” for their encore stage.

Before waving goodbye to their fans, the K-pop idols promised to return to the country for future events.

“We will be back soon, Manila, we will be back,” Eric assured.

Kevin, meanwhile, said they had a “great time” with their Filipino fans.

“Mami-miss ko kayo. I’ll miss you guys. Mahal ko kayo. I love you all. And thank you guys for the memories. I hope you guys had as much memorable time as we did tonight,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sangyeon, THE BOYZ’s leader, told their fans to stay healthy and look forward to their next album.

On X (formerly Twitter), THE BOYZ shared photos of them and thanked their fans for being their “happiness.”
