ZENDAYA is heading to the swamp.
In a 27-second teaser released by Universal Pictures on Friday, February 28, Shrek 5 finally unveiled its main cast, revealing Zendaya as one of its newest additions to the family.
She will play the role of Felicia, the daughter of beloved duo Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).
Eddie Murphy, the iconic voice of Donkey, will also reprise his role.
In 2017, Zendaya tweeted, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood.”
Following the announcement of her casting, Shrek’s official social media accounts revisited her old tweet, playfully adding, “This aged well.”
Shrek is an animated comedy film by DreamWorks Animation that reimagines classic fairy tales with humor and heart. It puts a spin on what a fairytale looks like when the Ogre gets to be the protagonist in the story.
The installment will be directed by longtime franchise veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, alongside Minions: The Rise of Gru co-director Brad Ableson.
Dohrn, who has been part of the Shrek series since Shrek 2, previously served as head of story on Shrek Forever After and voiced Rumpelstiltskin.
Vernon co-directed Shrek 2, directed Madagascar 2, and is known as the voice behind Gingy, the Gingerbread Man.
The screenplay is written by Michael McCullers, best known for his work on the Austin Powers films.
Scheduled for release on December 23, 2026, the film marks the fifth installment in the main Shrek series, which came after Shrek Forever After in 2010, produced by Universal and DreamWorks Animation.
