WORLD Coffee Philippines recently launched its month-long fundraising initiative to provide support for elderly LGBTQ+ individuals.
The initiative is in partnership with The Home for the Golden Gays (HGG), known simply as The Golden Gays, a non-profit queer organization dedicated to providing assistance and shelter for elderly LGBTQ+ persons.
The organization currently has 40 active members, whose ages are 60 and above. These members, referred to as the “lolas,” have been fighting for gender equality for decades.
As part of the initiative, World Coffee Philippines launched a special Pride Drink in all its branches nationwide.
A portion of the proceeds from every sold drink will be directly donated to the Golden Gays to aid the lolas’ financial needs.
According to Michael Gonzales, CEO of World Coffee Philippines, the initiative is one way of giving back to the elderly LGBTQ+ people for their contributions to the fight for equality and acceptance.
“The lolas have contributed immensely to the LGBTQ+ movement in the Philippines, and through this initiative, we hope to give back to them and ensure their stories and legacies continue to inspire future generations,” said Gonzales.
The fundraising initiative will run throughout the entire Pride Month, from June 1 to June 30, 2024.
Visit any World Coffee Philippines branch, purchase a Pride Drink, and help make a difference in the lives of the Golden Gays.
