This scene seemed like a successful marriage proposal in the eyes of many, but truth be told, it is not what they think it is.
51K Entertainment, Taecyeon’s agency, denied rumors that the 36-year-old actor is engaged with his non-showbiz girlfriend, after their photos in Paris, France circulated online.
According to the agency, the photos showing the main rapper of the South Korean boy group 2PM presenting a ring to his non-showbiz partner were not part of a marriage proposal.
“The photos, which were taken last year to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday, were unfortunately leaked and spread across online communities,” it said, as quoted by Korean entertainment website Soompi.
It clarified that the couple does not have immediate plans to tie the knot.
“He is continuing to have a good relationship with his girlfriend, as he always has,” it said.
Soompi reported that the photos were initially posted by a photographer on their social media account, leading several netizens to think that the K-pop idol had already asked the hand of his girlfriend for marriage.
The photos have since been deleted.
Dating confirmation
It was in 2020 when a source from 51K Entertainment confirmed that Taecyeon was in a relationship with a non-celebrity.
In July of that year, the artist addressed his dating news and apologized to those who were “surprised” and “disappointed” by it.
“I know very well that many people are worried about me,” wrote Taecyeon in an Instagram post, as translated into English by Soompi.
“That’s why I want to say that I will continue to do my best as an actor and as a member of 2PM, just as I’ve done until now, so please keep watching over me,” he added.
He also thanked his fans for supporting him despite his shortcomings.
Several international fans, meanwhile, said there was nothing to be sorry about as it is a normal thing for people to fall in love. They wished the couple the best and said that they would always support the idol.

Taecyeon last visited the Philippines in September 2023 for his “SpecialTY” fan meeting at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
