ONCE upon a time in a city not so far away, a search began for a princess locked in a tower—with a powerful voice and a bit of attitude.
This July, young Filipino performers will have the chance to bring Fiona’s childhood to life, as Shrek The Musical opens auditions for the roles of Young and Teen Fiona in its upcoming stage production.
Newport World Resorts announced that open-call auditions will be held on July 19 and 20, Saturday and Sunday, at the Academy for Leisure and Tourism (ALT), located on the second floor of Horizon Centre, 100 Andrews Avenue, Newport City, Pasay.
Registration runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with auditions beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
Casting is open to girls aged 10 to 12 for Young Fiona and 14 to 16 for Teen Fiona. Auditionees must come prepared to sing “I Know It’s Today,” one of the musical’s key songs, and demonstrate a soprano vocal range from B3 to C#5.
Aspiring Fionas must also bring their latest CV, a 3R-sized headshot, a full-body photo, and fill out a registration form.
The production is set to begin rehearsals on August 18.
Meanwhile, the full run of Shrek The Musical is slated for October to December 2025, with its official opening night on October 31 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
