Wanderland Festival 2024: A lot of ‘firsts’ in music

by Joshua Gerona

WANDERLAND Music and Arts Festival, one of the biggest and highly-anticipated music festivals in the country, is coming down this March 9 and 10 at the Filinvest City Events Grounds Alabang in Muntinlupa City.

Organized by Karpos Multimedia, the festival, now in its ninth year, returns with a theme, ‘Neighborhood,’ to celebrate music and arts that hit close to home.

This year, the festival prepares something the public should look forward to, as many international artists in the lineup will make their first-ever performances in the country.

Here are some ‘first-time’ acts that you should not miss out on Wanderland Festival 2024:

For the very first time, South Korean artist Hwasa will perform on a Philippine festival stage as a solo artist for this year’s Wanderland Festival.

She is a member of the prominent girl group Mamamoo, composed of Solar, Wheein, and Moonbyul.

Since her debut in 2019, she has been making big waves in the international music scene with her signature upbeat and stage presence.

Hwasa will perform her hits, such as ‘Maria,’ ‘I’m a B,’ and ‘Chill’ on Day 2 of the festival.

American singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is set to headline the first day of the festival. This marks the artist’s first-ever festival headline show in the country.

In a statement, Wanderland said that Johnson, an environmental rights activist, embodies the festival’s journey toward sustainability by spearheading sustainability campaigns.

Johnson has been known for crafting poetic music and folk-pop anthems, as seen in his hit songs ‘Better Together,’ ‘Banana Pancakes,’ and ‘Sunsets For Somebody Else.’

After the cancellation of Wanderland in 2020, Welsh multi-instrumentalist Novo Amor and Australian electronic music duo Cosmo’s Midnights will finally make their Philippine debut this weekend.

Novo Amor was originally set to perform for Wanderland 2020 but was later backed out, along with other artists, due to the pandemic outbreak. They were replaced by a new set of artists, including Cosmo’s Midnights.

However, a few days before the festival’s original schedule, organizers canceled the festival to ensure the health and safety of the public.

This year, both artists will make their highly-anticipated historic arrival in the festival as they set to perform their popular songs on the first day of Wanderland 2024.

Other international artists to debut on PH stage

Aside from Novo Amor and Cosmo’s Midnights, a bunch of international artists will also have their first-ever performances in the country.

To mark his legendary debut in the Philippines, the two-time Grammy winner Thundercat will headline the second day of the festival.

Chicago-based band The Walters, known for their song ‘I Love You So,’ Maroon 5’s keyboardist PJ Morton, French musician and DJ Breakbot, South Korean rapper Beenzino and Filipino-American singer Jeff Bernat will also perform in the country for the first time.
