A CLIP of an image of the Santo Niño, or the Holy Child, piqued the interest of many netizens because it allegedly wept tears.
The now-viral video was uploaded by netizen Camille Rose Carumba on Facebook and has garnered over 13,000 shares.
In the 1 min 22 sec clip—reportedly taken in Sitio Tayud, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City—Carumba was seen wiping away with her thumb, liquid from the left eye of the image.
According to a GMA News report, the owner of the Santo Niño image went to a southern town in Cebu province, leaving the icon in the care of a family member.
Rowena Jose, a resident of Sitio Tayud, believed that the image’s supposed tears were not “rainwater or other liquid substances” that could be passed through a hole in its head.
She said that the head of the image would have gotten wet if it weren’t tears.
The comment section of the Facebook post showed several netizens expressing their Catholic faith as they cited their prayers.
While some might believe they witnessed a miracle, the Catholic Church said they are still looking into the incident to determine if it was authentic or a miracle.
“The Church will still study the situation so we cannot just (believe) in such thing,” said Fr. Glenn Therese Guanzon, chairman of the Commission on Worship, in a phone interview with the media outlet.
Carumba, however, said she took the video based on what she saw and that it was up to others whether to believe it or not.
