PASIG mayor Vico Sotto stated that he will not run of any office position for the upcoming 2028 elections.
In an interview with Filipino broadcaster Jessica Soho at Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the Pasig mayor, stated that he will not be running for the upcoming 2028 elections as he wanted to take a break from politics.
“Kung ako lang, nagsabi na ako. 2028, I’ll take a break from politics. ‘Di muna ako tatakbo.” Sotto said in the interview.
Seeing the mass improvement that Sotto has made for the city of Pasig as well as his diligence as a mayor, many Filipinos are urging him to run for the highest position in the government.
A discussion has even been made amongst Filipinos to lower the age requirement just so the young mayor could run.
Aside from wanting to take a break from politics, Vico further expands that he doesn’t want to be like traditional politicians, who live by running in every election.
He further stated that bigger things don’t always necessarily mean that he has to be running in the elections. “I just want to do my part and I have to think of myself also.” he said.
While taking a break from politics, Vico further states that he doesn’t exactly know what to do just yet however, he wanted to teach as well as study.
“Di ko alam exactly kung anong gagawin ko. Gusto kong magturo sana, gusto kong mag-aral rin. Baka may mga opportunities rin in government, maybe civil society. Yun po talaga ang plano.”
