FILIPINO alternative rock band Up Dharma Down finally returned to the local music scene with the release of their comeback single Run Deep via Viva Records.

The single talks about love, betrayal, regret, and trust. It is the first offering of the band as a trio, composed of singer-bassist Paul Yap, guitarist Carlos Tañada, and drummer Ean Mayor.

‘Run Deep’ deviates from their previous works, with Yap taking over the vocal position after former frontwoman Armi Millare left the band in 2021. 

“It’s been a challenge to take on this role, but the band (Carlos and Ean) have been supportive, and we’ve adjusted our songwriting to accommodate my vocal range,” explained Yap. 

Embarking on a new sonic journey, the new single pays tribute to the band’s electronic sound signature while venturing into new music territories. 

According to the band, the single is a collaborative effort among the band members, highlighting their experimental approach to instrumentation. 

“We didn’t limit ourselves to our main instruments. We played around with synthesizers a lot,” guitarist Tañada shared. 

The band also said that the single is their attempt to further explore their “electronic leanings more confidently than ever before.” 

Yap even described the song as embodying “deep house sounds, the kind of music you listen to after clubbing.” 

‘Run Deep’ was first conceptualized as an offshoot of an instrumental project that Yap and Mayor made for an art gallery exhibit. The two later on transformed it into a full-fledged song.

The new track follows the band’s 2019 self-titled song and Netflix’s ‘Trese’ closing theme ‘Paagi.’ It is also part of their upcoming fifth studio album.
