Trump: TikTok to be bought by ‘very wealthy’ group

by Deanna Macaranas

ON Sunday, US President Donald Trump said that a group of buyers had been found for social media platform TikTok.

Following a federal law that requires TikTok (owned by a Chinese-based internet company, ByteDance) to be sold or banned due to the US government’s claim of its citizens’ data.

Both China and ByteDance have since denied the claim of taking and accessing data.

The ban was is set to take effect a day before Trump’s inauguration on January 20, but was later put into a halt and extended the deadline by another 90 days to find to be sold off a non-Chinese buyer.

In early May, Trump told NBC that TikTok has a little warm spot in his heart, later deciding that he would be willing to give it an extension if it needed an extension.

The previous extension was set to end on June 19, but Trump has extended it for a third time.

In an interview on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Trump said that they already have a buyer for TikTok.

According to the president, it is “it is a group of wealthy people.” He didn’t reveal more about the said buyers but then stated that he would make their identities known in about two weeks.

Trump also said that he would likely need the approval of China for TikTok’s sale and stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping will probably approve it.
