TikToker goes viral for “Landers” rant

by Gaby Agbulos

CONTENT CREATOR Lourd Ramos is currently under fire following a video he posted last September 16 expressing his disappointment in the service of the grocery store Landers.

In the video, he said that he didn’t understand what had happened with Landers, and then proceeded to show how his groceries had been packaged.

“Tagpi-tagpi yung box tapos may membership and everything,” he said.

“You’re paying a premium card and membership, but what’s this? Hindi ko alam kung nagtitipid, eco-friendly, whatever, but I don’t appreciate it.”

Repeatedly, he asked: “What happened to Landers?”

Since then, many have shown negative reactions toward his video. People have asked why he didn’t just purchase eco bags if he didn’t want them to be put into boxes, and others have stated that Landers has always packaged their items that way.

“That’s recycling,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote on a post that had reuploaded Ramos’s video.

“S&R and Landers use their used boxes instead of paper bag or plastic. We like the idea.”

Another wrote: “I do not see anything wrong with that. They are just putting to good use all those recycled cartons.”

Users online also jokingly asked if it was his first time going to Landers, saying that this was much too dramatic for a box of groceries.

Follow-up video

Following his original video blowing up, Ramos posted another one clarifying that he’d been referring to how the employees at Landers had packaged his products, not their use of boxes specifically.

“Tawang tawa ako sa mga hampaslupa, dayukdok, may masabi lamang at makapag-comment sa video ko about me doing my grocery shopping at Landers,” he said.

“One, bago magka-Landers sa Pilipinas, nagLa-Landers na kami.”

This statement confused people, as Landers is a store founded and based only in the Philippines.

Secondly, he explained that what he was questioning was the segregation of his products. The employees packing his groceries, for example, had put fish together with soap and meat with tissues.

He then added: “Pangatlo: wala akong pakialam sa mga comment niyo kasi baka nga wala kayong pambili ng kape at bigas, at wala rin kayong pang-wifi, makapag-comment lamang. Jusko day. Magtrabaho kayo, mgadayukdok at mga  hampaslupa!”

He asked Landers to train their employees on how to pack their items properly and also addressed the comments asking him to buy eco-bags instead.

“Bakla, ilang dosenang eco-bag?” He exclaimed.

“Kasalanan ko bang feel ko mag-Landers that day? Hindi ko kasalanan yun ‘te.”

He ended the video by telling people to stop commenting on his videos and to work instead.

Following this, one user on X asked: “Landers was only founded in 2016. And it is only found in the Philippines. [Saan] po [kaya] siya nag-Landers bukod sa [Pilipinas?]”

He added that while in the first video, the issue being raised was about the ‘tagpi tagpi’ cartons, now, it was suddenly about segregation.

Another wrote: “Kitang kita sa unang video na nakahiwalay ang sabon sa isda. Karton at packaging ang unang reklamo.”

Others have encouraged people online to stop interacting with his posts.

“At this point, all of us are engagement bait; uto-uto tayo lahat kasi pinipikon nalang niya tayo for engagement,” one user said.

Since this incident, many have echoed the sentiment that money truly can’t buy class.

Aside from making TikToks, Ramos is the CEO of Creations Salon, an ambassador for brands like Denman Global and Tresemme, a YouTuber, and a participant of Mr. World from 2022 to 2023 and Century Superbods in 2022.
