Repping Pinoy delicacies
One reason why many Filipinos are overjoyed with The Bear’s success thus far is because the show features cuisines from all over the world, with one of them being the country’s very own.
In Season 2 of The Bear, main characters Carmy and Sydney (Ayo Edibiri) visit a Michelin-starred Filipino restaurant called “Kasama.” Here, viewers watch as the two feast on a longganisa sausage sandwich, hashbrowns, mushroom adobo, and a mango tart. Later on in the same episode, Carmy even tries to make his own version of adobo.
This restaurant is a bakery and modern Filipino restaurant that can be found in the East Ukrainian Village neighborhood in Chicago. It was created by chefs Genie Kwon and Timothy Flores and is the world’s first-ever Filipino restaurant to earn a Michelin star.
They opened in July 2020 to make Filipino food accessible to those who’ve never tried it before, and they’ve been even more booked and busy since being featured on The Bear.
