AN achievement and a milestone.
Sydney Sweeney made her Saturday Night Live debut this week, and proved from the get-go that she’s not afraid of poking fun at herself—or her recent turn in the disastrous Madame Web.
Despite a nearly 15-year career in Hollywood, Sweeney felt compelled to give viewers some further details on who she is and what she has done.
In her opening statement, “You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria,” The White Lotus star explained to huge applause, before adding that “You definitely did not see me in Madame Web.”
But Sweeney said she was excited for viewers to get to know the real her, as she feels like “people only see me as the girl on TV who screams, cries, and has sex. Sometimes it’s all three at the same time.”
Sydney made reference to her alleged affair with her co-star Glen Powell from Anyone But You, as well as some of the character flaws she has come to be associated with, in addition to the Madame Web jab.
When Sweeney told the producers to cut her fiancé in the audience, Glen Powell’s face appeared on screen, which hit its comedic peak.
Sweeney also made light of her origins in Spokane, Washington, and her relationship to Idaho, which is nearby. “When people ask me where I’m from, I tell them I’m from Washington. But when uncomfortable situations come up, like when they ask, ‘Did you go to a Trump-themed party for your mom?’ I say, ‘Ida-ho.'”
Furthermore, the fans might get to see their on-screen romance again as they are “dreaming up a bunch of different ideas for a sequel”, Sweeney told People.
