Stray cats and dogs rescued by an elderly woman

by Bryan Gadingan

ADOPTING stray animals is more than just an act of compassion—it is a responsibility and a commitment to animals and society, especially given the country’s current circumstances.

The heat brought about by El Niño has had a significant impact on animals like stray cats and dogs. This emphasizes why they need to be saved or adopted by a fur parent.

On Tuesday, netizen John Albert Sanico shared beautiful photos of an elderly woman who rescued stray cats and dogs along Quirino Street in Malate, Manila, on Facebook’s CATS & KITTENS Philippines group

According to Sanico, the elderly woman and her rescued strays frequently roamed the streets of Quirino and would spend the night at the back of the Victoria de Manila condominium in Malate.

“Share ko lang tong photos ni Nanay at kanyang mga rescued strays (dogs and cats). Madalas sila along Quirino and dun daw sila madalas natutulog sa likod ng Victoria De Manila VDM Malate Manila,” he said.

The old woman separates and sells waste to pay for her furry pets’ food. “Nangangalakal si nanay pang kain niya at mga strays. Medyo gutom na ung dogs and cats niya,” he explained.

“Nilapitan ko at mababait sila. Nagbigay lang ako ng onting halaga. Kasi wala akong dalang cat/dog food. At pauwi ako sa Las Pinas,” he added.

Sanico urged the public for help in supplying food not just for the rescued animals but also for the old woman. Nanay also yearned for a sidecar for herself and the furry pets she had rescued, as they could no longer fit in her cart.

“Sa makakita sa kanila sa area na yan. Sana mabigyan niyo po sila ng cat and dog food. And hiling ni nanay na sidecar/padyak sana dahil ndi na kasya ung mga rescued niya. Maraming salamat,” the netizen said.

Netizens who noticed the post were eager to support the elderly woman and her rescued strays. They asked for their particular spot so that they can give her something in case they pass by.

It is amazing to see an old woman save the lives of stray animals. At the end of the day, adopting these fur babies provides an opportunity to save lives.

Every adoption provides a stray animal with a chance for a better life, away from the dangers of roaming the streets. It’s a chance to provide them with dignity, love and protection.

Adopting a stray animal benefits the animal and the adopter. Pets offer companionship, unconditional love and emotional support to their owners.
