Star Cinema reschedules KimPau’s first movie for March

FANS of Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, whom they fondly call KimPau, won’t see the two on the big screen during the love month.

This is after Star Cinema rescheduled their forthcoming romantic comedy film, “My Love Will Make You Disappear,” for March 26 from its initial release on February 12.

The production company issued a statement on Saturday, January 11, explaining that the rescheduling was made “in light of new developments and exciting opportunities to expand into the North American market.”

It said it is collaborating with a global theatrical distributor and an award-winning international entertainment marketing firm to bring “the beautiful story to even more viewers as they believe in the film’s universal appeal that can captivate a broader audience.”

Star Cinema’s statement comes after several netizens expressed their disappointment over rumors that the rom-com film would be released at a later date without allegedly informing the actors about it.

A photo from a local cinema, which reportedly said the movie would be released in April 2025, also circulated online, prompting fans to demand clarification from Star Cinema about the movie’s release date as some have already planned for block screenings and booked plane tickets to support their idols’ film.

The frustration built up as Avelino posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter) that read, “Ma-experience nga na hindi tumapos ng pelikula.”

About ‘My Love Will Make You Disappear’

Chiu and Avelino confirmed they would work together on “My Love Will Make You Disappear” in an episode of “It’s Showtime” in August 2024.

This will be KimPau’s first-ever big screen project, after starring in the thriller-drama series “Linlang” in 2023 and the Philippine adaptation of the popular South Korean drama “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” in 2024.

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” is directed by Chad Vidanes, who also helmed the Pinoy version of “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.”

Prime Cruz brought the movie’s concept to the table, with the screenplay written by Patrick Valencia and Isabella Policarpio.

“Very interesting siya sa akin. Classic siya, classic rom-com yet very bago,” Vidanes said during his appearance on “It’s Showtime,” where Chiu serves as a mainstay host.

Last December, Star Cinema released the official teaser for “My Love Will Make You Disappear,” featuring KimPau’s chance encounter in the rain.

It showcased one of the classic rom-com moments in which the guy, a.k.a Avelino’s character, accidentally bumps the girl, a.k.a Chiu’s character, making her fall into his arms. What added to the viewers’ kilig was the soundtrack, “Dilaw,” by Gen Z singer-songwriter Maki.

As of writing, the teaser has over 237,000 views on Star Cinema’s YouTube account.
