YOU can now send a direct message (DM) to friends on Spotify to share songs, podcasts, and audiobooks.
The music streaming service announced the rollout of its new Messages feature on August 26, which will be available this week.
“Our goal is to give users what they want and make those moments of connection more seamless and streamlined in the Spotify app,” said Spotify in their official press release.
“That’s why, beginning this week, Messages will start rolling out to Free and Premium users aged 16 years and older in select markets on mobile devices.”
Messages— the new in-app feature—let users have one-on-one conversations where they can share Spotify content and react with text or emojis.
Users can start a message with anyone they’ve interacted with before on Spotify.
While listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook in the Now Playing view, they can tap the share icon, select a friend, and hit send.
Once a request is accepted, users can exchange messages and react with emojis, similar to features on other social media platforms.
Furthermore, Messages can be accessed by tapping the user’s profile photo in the top left corner of the app.
The launch comes as Spotify continues to expand its platform and target 1 billion users worldwide.
The company recently announced plans to raise the monthly price of its premium individual subscription in some markets to improve profit margins, with new features like Messages accompanying the updates.
