LAST FRIDAY, January 10, 2025, the Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño de Cebu Pilgrim Center hosted the opening ceremonies for the highly anticipated Sinulog Festival 2025.
The Cebu fiesta is one of the most renowned cultural and religious festivities in the Philippines, attracting millions of visitors from all over the country and even the world every year.
The Santo Niño celebration, held annually on the third Sunday of the first month of the year, showcases devotion, song, dance, and bright street parades to celebrate the child Jesus.
However, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia stated that this year’s activities will be different because the festival has finally returned to the Cebu City Sports Center rather than the South Road Properties.
A Festival Like No Other
The excitement for this year’s event is great, as it promises to be a spectacular occasion featuring both traditional and contemporary elements that reflect the country’s rich history, faith, and cultural pride.
Some of the most significant daily activities for Sinulog 2025 included the brass band parade and competition on Saturday, January 11, and the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan on Sunday, January 12.

Tight Security
Aside from that, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 in Central Visayas is working closely with the city government to provide tight security for the Grand Parade on Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the newly appointed regional police head, assured the media on Wednesday that preparations for the Fiesta Señor are underway.
Thousands of people are anticipated to attend church services at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu and Sinulog celebrations at the Cebu City Sports Center.
“Our goal remains clear: a modernized, disciplined, and respected police force. We will enhance police response time and implement effective measures against drugs, crime, and private armed groups to ensure a safe and secure Region 7,” he said.
The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas reports that over 305 vessels have registered for the Fluvial Parade of the Santo Niño on Saturday.
The fleet includes motorboats, fishing boats, cargo vessels, tugboats, yachts, and speedboats that will transit the Mactan Channel.
