WHO wouldn’t want a hot, sour bowl of sinigang on their table? Sinigang, the beloved traditional Filipino sour soup, has made it to TasteAtlas’ list of the world’s 100 Best Dishes.
TasteAtlas, a prominent online food and travel guide, named the local tamarind-based soup 97th on their annual list of the best of the greatest meals across the world.
On the list, sinigang beat out Zurek from Poland, Steak Au Poivre from France, and Pho Bo from Vietnam, demonstrating how flexible and wonderful this Filipino food is.
Picanha from Brazil topped the list of the greatest meals in the world in 2023.
Sinigang is quite versatile as it can be prepared with any meat, including pork, beef, chicken, and even seafood. Sinigang pairs wonderfully with a hot cup of rice as a main course, whether for a sunny afternoon or a hefty dinner.
Sinigang is one of the staples of Filipino cuisine. The soup exemplifies the Filipinos’ fondness of strong, contrasting flavors. The balance of sourness and richness creates a soothing and distinct dish that is appreciated throughout the archipelago.
“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” noted TasteAtlas on their website (LINK).
Sinigang was the only Filipino dish on the list. However, this isn’t the first time sinigang has appeared on the list; last November, the meal was named one of the greatest soups in the world, along with bulalo.
The 100 meals on the list garnered the highest ratings from nearly 395,000 users, according to TasteAtlas. Meanwhile, sinigang currently has a rating of 4.5/5.0.
