Show love to your gals this National Girlfriends Day

by Gaby Agbulos

TODAY, August 1, is National Girlfriends Day. This isn’t, however, a day for couples; it’s a celebration of female friendships.

According to National Today, this celebration was started in 2004 by Mistress Susan, who runs a luxury website. She created this holiday as a way for girls to show appreciation for their female friends, and to show gratitude for the time they’ve spent together.

While relationships may come and go, your girls are forever; they are with you in every moment, in both the good and the bad. So why not find a way to show your appreciation for them on this special day?

If you’re looking for things you can do for your friends that won’t break the bank, here are some ideas.

1.     A handwritten note / handmade gift

Nothing shows love like something you made on your own. Gifts you buy from stores or online are great but things like handwritten notes or handmade gifts are a lot more personal.

These show your friends how important they are to you and these can be customized depending what you’ve gone through together.

You can make a journal or scrapbook of the memories you’ve shared or simply write them a letter expressing your love and appreciation for them.

Whatever you create, they’re sure to love it because it’s a gift that they know comes straight from the heart.

2.              Flowers, real or virtual

Who says flowers are just for couples? Show your love this Girlfriends Day with a bouquet! For a more personalized touch, you can buy flowers separately and then arrange them yourself. You can also make a day of it with your girlfriends and invite them over to make bouquets with one another.

But given how busy one’s schedule can get, it’s understandable if you won’t have the time to see your girlfriends any time soon. If that’s the case, there’s the option of sending them a virtual bouquet online, free of charge. All you’ll need is their e-mail address.

You can even add a sweet message alongside their flowers.

3.              An activity you can do together

As one grows older, it gets harder to maintain friendships. You have less time to see the people you love, and less energy because of how heavy your workload is, whether it be at work or in school.

It’s important to keep on trying to make time for your friends. One thing you can do is set at least one day a month or a week when you and your friends can meet and do an activity that all of you will enjoy.

You can also check TikTok for cute things you can do together. An example is the current cardboard or paper bouquet trend, where you draw a vase on a piece of cardboard or paper, poke holes into it, and then walk around outside to fill it with flowers.

You can also try buying some paint and make a day out of painting each other on mini canvases, with snacks and drinks to boot.

Whether it’s cafe-hopping, game night, a sleepover, clubbing, you’re sure to have fun when you’re in a room filled with the people who cherish you the most.

When you’re with the right people, any activity, big or small, feels like the most fun experience in the world.
