SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi, Woozi to embark on military service in September

by Joanna Deala

TWO more members of the K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN are set to begin their mandatory military service.

On Tuesday, PLEDIS Entertainment, SEVENTEEN’s label, announced that Woozi and Hoshi will enlist as active duty soldiers on September 15 and September 16, respectively.

They are the third and fourth SEVENTEEN members to undertake military service, following Jeonghan in September 2024 and Wonwoo in April 2025. Hoshi, Woozi, and Wonwoo are part of the boy group’s ’96 liners, or those born in 1996.

In a notice on the Weverse app, PLEDIS said Hoshi and Woozi, who form the “HxW” sub-unit, will still attend their “WARNING” fan concert and the SEVENTEEN 5th Studio Album Yizhiyu video call fan signing before they enter the South Korean military.

“Following the start of their military service, they will not be able to participate in SEVENTEEN’s group activities. However, they will continue to stay connected with CARAT through a variety of pre-recorded content,” the label said.

PLEDIS also advised fans to refrain from visiting the military site but encouraged them to send farewell messages and encouragement for the two K-pop idols through Weverse.

“We ask for your continued love and support for the artists and best wishes for their safe and healthy return,” it said.

“We will also strive to provide our artists with all the necessary support during this time,” it added.

CARATs’ mixed reactions

Hoshi had been dropping hints about his upcoming military enlistment. For instance, he did a military salute and wore camouflage-patterned pants during the Philippine leg of the “Right Here” world tour in Bulacan in January 2025.

Despite his clues, some CARATs were still surprised by the confirmation of his military enlistment date.

“Unfortunately… Hoshi hasn’t prepared us enough,” one fan said on X (formerly Twitter).

But other Filipino fans anticipated the military service announcement and poked fun at it as their “coping mechanism.”

“Yehey! Matutuloy na ‘yung pangarap ni Hoshi,” one Filo CARAT posted on X.

“Grabeng mental conditioning ‘to, Hoshi, ‘di na ako nagulat,” another fan replied.

Nonetheless, CARATs wished the pair well and promised to wait for their return.

About Hoshi, Woozi

Hoshi and Woozi debuted as SEVENTEEN members in May 2015 with the release of their mini album “17 CARAT.”

The 13-member group is divided into three sub-units: the hip-hop team, the vocal team, and the performance team. Woozi leads the vocal team, while Hoshi serves as the leader of the performance team.

Hoshi and Woozi debuted as the “HxW” sub-unit in March 2025, dropping their first single album “BEAM.”

The duo is set to kick off the “WARNING” fan concert series in Seoul from July 11 to 13, followed by a two-day show in Busan from July 19 to 20, and another two-day performance in Gwangju on August 23 and 24. The “WARNING” fan concert series marks SEVENTEEN’s first unit fan concert and its first unit nationwide tour.

Hoshi and Woozi recently provided the track, “ECHO!” for the leader class mission of the hit South Korean dance competition show “World of Street Woman Fighter,” which featured various celebrated dance crews from South Korea, Japan, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
