SEVENTEEN rocks the iconic Pyramid stage as the first K-Pop act to perform at Britain’s esteemed Glastonbury Festival on June 28, 2024.
In an interview with ITV News, SEVENTEEN member Joshua expressed their excitement to be one of the performers in the festival, “It’s crazy ’cause Glastonbury–I heard it’s one of the biggest festivals that you guys have in Europe. So, we’re really excited for that and to be the first K-Pop group to be here is just amazing in itself…”.
Opening their 1-hour performance, the group performed their recent comeback’s title track “MAESTRO” where WOOZI, one of the writers and producers for the group, played the song’s intro tune on the keyboard alongside the live band before joining his members on the stage.
The group’s lively performance of MAESTRO flaunted the diverse singing voices and rap within the group alongside a well-coordinated dance that impressed the crowd with the quick footwork of the dance break.
Other songs included in the group’s setlist are Ready to Love, SOS, Rock with You, Clap, Hot, Headliner, and God of Music. It also included SEVENTEEN’s sub-units’ performances mainly members’ Joshua and Vernon’s “2 MINUS 1”, performance unit’s “I Don’t Understand But I love You”, vocal unit’s “Cheers to Youth”, and hip hop unit’s “LALALI”.
SEVENTEEN showed their passion on stage as they displayed their lively energy with their synchronized dance and stable live vocals all throughout their time on the Pyramid.
“…we just want to show K-Pop around the world,” Joshua states in having the opportunity to be the first K-Pop act perform at the Glastonbury Festival.
Albeit the uncertainty of the success of their guesting, being the first K-Pop act in Glastonbury, SEVENTEEN broke down barriers and ended their performance with the crowd hyped and energetic with “Aju Nice”.
“Even though the language, country and culture are all different, we can still connect as one through music,” Joshua says during one of their performances.
The Glastonbury Festival is a cultural 5-day festival showcasing different kinds of art forms from musical acts, performance arts, and visual installations. Headliners for the 2024 music fest are Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA.
SEVENTEEN is a 13-member self-produced K-Pop group that has three sub-units, mainly vocal, hip hop, and performance units. According to Reuters, the group was last year’s biggest-selling album globally. The group continues to make waves internationally as UNESCO announces them as the first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth in their Paris headquarters.
