SB19, Cup of Joe are big winners in the inaugural Filipino Music Awards

by Joanna Deala

SEVERAL of the biggest and rising stars in the local music industry gathered for the first-ever Filipino Music Awards (FMAs) on Tuesday, October 21, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Presented by Modern Media Group, Inc., the FMAs was established to honor the best of Filipino music.

P-pop powerhouse SB19—consisting of Pablo, Ken, Josh Cullen, Justin, and Stell—dominated the awards night with six accolades, including the Artist of the Year Award and the People’s Choice Award for Artist.

The phenomenal quintet also took home the Pop Song of the Year Award and the People’s Choice Song Award for “Dungka!”, a song featured in their extended play (EP), “Simula at Wakas,” in April 2025.

SB19’s “Simula at Wakas” world tour, in support of their latest EP, was named Concert of the Year and Tour of the Year.

Meanwhile, Cup of Joe—composed of Gian Bernardino, Raphaell Ridao, Gabriel Fernandez, CJ Fernandez, and Xen Gareza—took home two grand awards: Album of the Year for “Silakbo” and Song of the Year for “Multo.”

“Multo” is among the most popular Original Pinoy Music (OPM) songs today, making Cup of Joe the first Filipino act to enter the Billboard Global 200. It also spent weeks at the top of multiple music charts, including Billboard Philippines’ Hot 100 and Spotify Philippines’ daily chart.

The viral song is part of “Silakbo,” the band’s debut studio album released in January 2025.

On X (formerly Twitter), SB19 thanked everyone who supported them throughout their musical journey.

“Behind our success are all the people who supported us along the way,” the boy group said.

They also took on the hilarious “Who was interested first” trend on TikTok with Cup of Joe.

Meanwhile, Cup of Joe shared the good news on X and said, “SOTY [Song of the Year] & AOTY [Album of the Year]!!!”
