SB19, BINI lead nominees for 9th PPOP Music Awards

by Joanna Deala

P-POP kings SB19 and the nation’s girl group BINI, already two of the most recognized P-pop groups, lead the list of Filipino artists nominated for the ninth PPOP Music Awards.

SB19, as a quintet, is nominated in three categories: Song of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, and Concert of the Year.

Its members also earn individual nominations, with Pablo and Josh Cullen having five nominations each, Felip with four, Justin with two, and Stell with one.

BINI, on the other hand, has nine nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Production Design in a Music Video, Concert of the Year, and Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

The girl group’s hit songs “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin” are nominated for Song of the Year. It is also nominated for Music Video of the Year for its songs “Salamin, Salamin” and “Cherry On Top.”

Meanwhile, Gen Z singer-songwriter Maki, who popularized the song “Dilaw,” has the most nominations among solo artists, vying for six awards.

Maki is nominated in six categories: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Production Design in a Music Video, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Solo Artist of the Year.

Since 2016, the PPOP Music Awards has been recognizing the outstanding achievements and significant contributions of Philippine pop artists and the key figures in the music scene locally and globally.

The nominees for this year’s edition were chosen among the local pop artists who had been “active” from November 2023 to November 2024. The award-giving body said that all songs, music videos, and other works released within the said timeline were eligible for the award categories.

The awards night is set for December 28, Saturday, at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

SB19 and BINI recently won at the Brazil-based BreakTudo Awards 2024. The girl group took home two awards: the International Breakthrough Artist Award and the International Music Video Award for their song “Cherry On Top.”

SB19 bagged the Best International Male Group Award.

Maki, on the other hand, just concluded his two-day first solo concert at the New Frontier Theater. He also released “Bughaw” on Sunday, a new song about platonic love.
