Sanya Lopez wants to play ‘bida-kontrabida,’ superhero roles; do GL series

by Joanna Deala

ACTRESS Sanya Lopez remains a Kapuso after signing an exclusive contract with GMA Network last month. What are her projects that viewers can look forward to?

While there’s no official announcement yet of her forthcoming shows, the 27-year-old actress shared the kind of roles she would like to take on: to be bida-kontrabida, a superhero, or a lead in a Girls’ Love (GL) series.

Lopez revealed this in an interview with republicasia during her contract signing as the newest ambassador and endorser of Amara Shia Jewelry. The event was held on October 5 in Pasay City.

Pero bida-kontrabida siya,” she said.

The Kapuso actress wishes to show a different side of her to viewers when she takes on these new and more challenging roles.

Madalas kasing pinapagawa sa’kin more on sa drama, crybaby, lagi akong ganon. Laging naghahabol sa jowa, parang ganon eh,” she shared.

Lopez said she also wants to star in a superhero series. The actress previously portrayed warrior roles as Urduja in 2023 fantasy series “Mga Lihim ni Urduja,” and as Sang’gre Danaya in the 2016 “Encantadia” remake.

Ako kasi warrior eh, Danaya tsaka Urduja. Pero yung superhero na literal na may powers na lumilipad and everything, parang hindi pa nila ako nakita nang ganon,” she explained.

Lopez kicked off her career in the Kapuso network as a co-host in the variety show “Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman” in 2012. She has since appeared in several Kapuso television series, portraying supporting roles.

She gained more recognition when she became part of the 2016 reboot of “Encantadia.” The actress was then offered lead roles in the teleseryes “Haplos” in 2017, “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” in 2019, “First Yaya” in 2021, and “First Lady” in 2022.

Biggest lesson

In her over 10 years of showbiz experience, Lopez shared the most memorable lesson she’s learned in the industry: respecting other people.

The actress highlighted the importance of respecting everyone, regardless of their social status.

Sabi ko nga, kahit president man yan o janitor man yan, importante na yung respect mo sa kanila pantay-pantay kasi bilog ang mundo,” she said. “Baka dumating yung panahon na sila pala yung tutulong sa’yo.”

People should also stay humble and be grateful to those who have supported them since the beginning, Lopez said.

Never kang dapat mag-attitude. Dapat marunong kang magpasalamat palagi sa mga tao, maging humble lang. Yun naman talaga,” she said.

Tsaka yung pagiging loyal sa network mo, sa mga taong naniniwala sa’yo, at pagiging grateful lang na meron kang mga taong sinuportahan ka mula umpisa hanggang ngayon,” she stressed.
