Robin Padilla works very hard to stay faithful, says wife Mariel

by Gaby Agbulos

IN A RECENT episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda”, Mariel Padilla, the wife of Senator and former actor Robin Padilla, talked about her one condition for marriage.

Given that Robin is of Muslim religion, Mariel explains that he is actually allowed to have four wives instead of just one.

However, she told him that if they were to get married, she would be his only wife.

She added: “Everything else, I can do it, no problem.”

And to this day, Mariel states that Robin works very hard to keep that promise.

Views on marriage

“When I got in the relationship, because Robin was very clear, he said that what mattered to him, kumbaga ‘yung untouchable sa kanya, is ‘yung Mindanao and his children,” Mariel explained.

Included in this were the donations, services, and other things Robin din in aid of Mindanao.

“So never ko ‘yun ginagalaw.”

During the interview, she also said that when married, the respect between one another should be equal, but she believes that the wife should still be submissive to the husband.

Aside from this, she also believes that it is the woman who “carries” the marriage.

She did explain, however, that for her, women have the right to “give the go signals.”

“Tayo yung magsasabi, ito ang magaganap,” she said.

“Mas nakakaangat ang babae, lalo na in Robin’s religion. Mas binibigyan ng pagpapahalaga ang mga babae.”

In her marriage, she says that she is happy and content with Robin. The pair first met on Willie Revillame’s show, wherein Mariel was a regular host and Robin was a guest host.

Three months later, they got married at the Taj Mahal in India, in August 2010. They have been together ever since, and have two children, Isabela and Gabriela.
