#RASpotlight: G22 empowers women through newest single

by Joanna Deala

THE Philippines celebrates National Women’s Month this March, recognizing women’s contributions across all sectors and advocating for their rights and gender equality.

To honor women, P-pop girl group G22—composed of AJ, Alfea, and Jaz—dedicates its latest single “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” to all brave Filipinas who fought for the country’s freedom and amplified the Filipino people’s voice.

In an exclusive interview with republicasia, AJ shared that “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” was supposed to be released last year, but G22 thought that might not be the “perfect time” to do so.

When they planned for their music releases for 2025, the P-pop’s “Female Alphas” decided to drop the single in March, coinciding with the celebration of National Women’s Month.

“Sa first release namin, para sa’min Renaissance Era kasi siya and sakto na i-release namin ‘yung ‘Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban’ on Women’s Month kasi it’s also to commemorate ‘yung history natin, ‘yung mga babaeng lumaban para meron tayong boses ngayon,” AJ said.

“Sobrang in line lang lahat ng nangyayari and sobrang saya namin na we’re able to inspire and boost a lot of women’s confidence because of the song,” she added.

“Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” talks about women’s empowerment, highlighting how their role in society evolved from being silenced and powerless in the ancient Philippines to taking leadership roles in the government, businesses, and other organizations in the modern era.

It was released on March 7, a day before the celebration of the International Women’s Day. “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” is G22’s first music release this 2025, which followed its last song release “I Hate Boys” in May 2024.

Celebrating Filipina women

G22 also dropped a music video for “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban,” where it paid tribute to several notable Filipina women in history like Gabriela Silang and exuded “girl boss” energy. The members also represented all Filipina women of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

“As you can see ‘yung details, commemorating our past women na mga nagsilaban para sa boses na meron tayo ngayon. And also, ‘yung representation na women can lead. We have Jaz on the [podium], we have Alfea on a government office, and we have Cleopatra na isa sa mga strongest leaders in the past,” AJ noted.

“Representation din ‘yung maraming babae doon, all shapes and sizes, even trans women as sisters. Maraming mapupulot na iba’t ibang [kahulugan] kung ano ba ang babae sa kanta,” she continued.

G22 has been advocating for women’s empowerment since it started as a P-pop group, and “Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban” allowed the members to continue promoting their advocacy and bringing all women together this Women’s Month.

For the P-pop group, Women’s Month is not just about celebrating women but also commemorating the challenges and causes they continue to deal with and fight for in today’s world.

“It also empowers your mom, your sister who are put into these roles and you don’t get to celebrate them as often when their actions [go] unnoticed,” Jaz said.

“But with things like Women’s Month, we can really celebrate and applaud them for being them and doing everything,” she added.

Future activities

G22 was one of the nominees for the March RA Spotlight, along with other P-pop groups Yes My Love (YML), AJAA, and YGIG. Yes My Love, also known as the “Vocal Heartstoppers of P-pop,” was declared winner.

Regardless of the result, G22 thanked their fans, collectively known as Bullets, who continued to promote and vote for the group.

“Thank you so much for your support, your loyalty. We really feel your love and we’re just so grateful whether we win or lose, ‘yung effort na binigay niyo and ‘yung love na binigay niyo, it means so much to us,” Jaz said.

Meanwhile, Alfea said, “Thank you so much kasi grabe ‘yung pagti-tiyaga niyo na gawin lahat ‘yan. Thank you, thank you so much! Babawi kami.”

As a way to thank and express its love for Bullets, G22 shared it prepared more music releases for its “new era” which would highlight how the members would embrace their “feminine side” even more.

“If you like this concept for ‘Pa-Pa-Pa-Palaban,’ there’s more in store,” Jaz hinted.
