THE QUEZON City government has announced its plan to hold a graduation ceremony for students who were denied their school marching, for dressing according to their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE).
The graduation ceremony dubbed as “Graduation Rights: March with Pride in QC” is scheduled on June 22.
According to the QC LGU’s social media post, it is a special ceremonial graduation that aims to celebrate the right of students to freely graduate and march according to their own expression. It is one of the special activities to mark Quezon City’s 85th anniversary.
The program is open to people 18 years old or above, a Quezon City resident or a graduate of a school located within the area, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
One of the requirements to join the ceremony is to prove that you couldn’t march for your high school or college graduation due to self-expression.

Registration is ongoing until June 7. Other details including the time and location of the event have yet to be announced.
It’s not the first time for the QC government to take initiatives promoting the rights of LGBTQIA+ community members. In June 2023, the QC government released the Right to Care card where authorized LGBTQIA+ couples can make medical decisions on behalf of their partners.
