PH’s JL Gaspar to debut as AHOF member on July 1

by Joanna Deala

FILIPINO idol JL Gaspar will officially enter the K-pop scene as a member of the new K-pop boy group AHOF.

AHOF, which stands for “All-time Hall of Famer,” will debut on July 1 with the release of its first mini-album, “Who We Are,” along with a music video.

On X (formerly Twitter), AHOF shared school-themed concept photos for its debut mini-album, unleashing the members’ youthful and vibrant energy.

The “Who We Are” mini-album’s tracklist will be unveiled on Thursday, June 26, followed by a highlight medley on June 27 and a music video teaser on June 30.

Managed by South Korean record label F&F Entertainment, AHOF is a nine-piece South Korean act consisting of JL, Steven, Jeongwoo, Woongki, Shuaibo, Han, Juwon, Chih En, and Daisuke.

The group was formed through the survival show “Universe League,” the sequel to “Universe Ticket” which formed the global girl group UNIS with three Filipino members Gehlee Dangca, Elisia Parmisano, and Filipina-Korean Jin Hyeon-ju.

Before joining the reality competition show, JL was part of the P-pop boy group PLUUS, known for its songs “Amigo,” “Shining Star,” “Missing You,” and “Universe.”

In January, PLUUS members Yen, Haro, Gab, and Justin congratulated and expressed support for JL for his achievement.

“Magkasama man o hindi tayong magpapatuloy sa mga buhay natin, salamat dahil nakilala ka namin. See you soon!!” they said on X.

‘Alon’

As he prepares for his debut as an AHOF member, JL released a song he recorded in 2024 in the Philippines before he auditioned for “Universe League.”

Titled “Alon,” JL’s single is an emotional pop track that serves as his “heartfelt farewell to his time with PLUUS and a meaningful introduction to his new journey as a member of an upcoming K-pop group,” Universal Records Philippines said in a press release.

The label stressed that “Alon” captures the feeling of “painful uncertainty” of drowning in love.

A part of the song’s lyrics goes: “Ako’y nalulunod / Hindi makaahon / Sabihin mo kung ano ba talaga kasi / Ano bang meron satin / Na hindi mo masabi / Kailan ko malalaman / Kung nalulunod ka na rin sa akin.”

JL co-composed the single with “Dilaw” hitmaker Maki.

“Alon” will also serve as the theme song of the Tagalog-dubbed version of the hit South Korean drama “Lovely Runner,” starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon. The series will premiere on June 23 on GMA.
