“Wherever you are, that’s where I belong,” Netflix wrote on its Instagram post.
The film adaptation of Henry’s 2021 novel is helmed by filmmaker Brett Haley, who directed the musical comedy-drama film “Hearts Beat Loud” and the movie version of Jennifer Niven’s novel, “All the Bright Places.”
“People We Meet on Vacation” follows Poppy and Alex, who have been best friends for over a decade. They live in different cities, but they spend every summer vacation together—until one trip where everything goes wrong and they stop talking to each other for two years.
“This is a movie that doesn’t just tell a love story,” Haley told Netflix Tudum.
“It makes you feel like you’ve gone on vacation right alongside Poppy and Alex,” he added.
Netflix said the movie is being produced in partnership with Sony Pictures.
Meet the cast
Blyth and Bader are joined by actors Sarah Catherine Hook of “First Kill,” Jameela Jamil of “The Good Place,” Lucien Laviscount of “Emily in Paris,” Lukas Gage of “You,” and Miles Heizer of “13 Reasons Why.”
Adding to the summer fun are Tommy Do of “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” Alice Lee of “Sierra Burgess is a Loser,” Alan Ruck of “Succession,” and Molly Shannon of “Private Life.”
Haley praised Blyth and Bader’s chemistry on screen, saying that they were able to show the opposites-attract dynamic effortlessly and genuinely.
“She wears her emotions so openly, and Emily Bader captures all of that so fully,” the director said of Poppy’s character.
He continued, “Tom Blyth, who in real life is effortlessly cool, really leaned into Alex’s logic and restraint in a way that made the character feel incredibly real and relatable.”
Bader is known for her lead role in the historical fantasy romance series, “My Lady Jane” in 2024. She also bagged lead roles in the films “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin” and “Fresh Kills.”
Meanwhile, Blyth first landed his lead role in the 2018 coming-of-age film “Scott and Sid.” He has since starred in various movies, including “Benediction” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”
