Nintendo announces Nintendo switch software to be playable on the successor to Switch

by Deanna Macaranas

On Wednesday, Nintendo said that video games made for the hugely popular Switch console will also be playable on a new version, the release of which fans are eagerly waiting for.

This comes a day after the Japanese gaming giant—downgraded its annual sales forecast where it reported a 60% plunge in net profit for the first half of this financial year.

On Nintendo’s president official X account, Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the software of Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Switch.

The post added that more information on the successor to the Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch will be announced at a later date.

Aside from the announcement of Nintendo Switch software being compatible on the successor, an online subscription service will also be available on the new product.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, both handheld and TV-compatible divide Switch became a must-have among all age groups. This is due to the fun and distraction it provided during the lockdown.

The popularity of Switch is helped by hit games such as Animal Crossing.

Last Tuesday, it was also said that on this year’s April-September, the Switch unit sales decreased 31%.
