THE most anticipated RepublicAsia event has just concluded, and here are some of the takeaways of students who participated in the event.
iAcademy and RepublicAsia had once again made a collaboration and as for the NextUp’s campaign—a lot of students studying in iAcademy had partake in the happenings.
iAcademy an RepublicAsia’s NextUp is a campaign dedicated to people who aspires to work in the field of media. The campaign features a discussion concerning the traditional values of journalism, media literacy, and the use of technology in this digital age.
With many students partaking in the event—RepublicAsia had interviewed 5 students who shared their experience participating on NextUp.
But before we dive deep on the experience they’ve encountered, has it ever crossed your mind on why these students chose to participate in the campaign in the first place?
Rio–a senior high school student is currently participating in a strand that focuses on Web Development—and as an aspiring Web Developer, Rio claims that the reason why he chose to participate on this campaign was to learn more about the digital world.
“The reason why I chose to participate in this event is because I wanted to learn more about what’s happening in the digital world. I want to learn more about the crisis and what we can do to resolve it.”
Meanwhile in the case of Bryan–a 3rd year college student majoring in BS IT Web Development claims that the reason why he chose to attend the event is to learn more about media literacy.
Since the campaign itself was centered around the topic of media literacy and digital world—iAcademy and RepublicAsia had also invited journalists and broadcasters to speak on the event. And due to this, students had also shared on who they expected the most to speak for the event.
Pia–a 4th year college student majoring in Information Technology shared that she’s been expecting Gretchen Ho the most to speak for the event.
“Besides the fact that she’s a volleyball player, I’ve also watched her before as a kid in ABS-CBN.” Pia shared.
Meanwhile, Liz–a 4th year college student also majoring in Information Technology claims that it wasn’t just Gretchen Ho that she’s expecting, but also–Susan Enriquez.
“It’s because they’re the ones that I often see and hear on the television.” Liz shared. “They are more popular–as for Gretchen Ho I always see her on TikTok and as for Susan Enriquez I always see her reporting on GMA.”
Upon taking part in the NextUp events, these students had also shared the lessons they’ve learned from the campaign itself.
Allen–a 3rd year college student shared that he learned how to be aware of what we are about to post online especially when you’re a content creator. Allen also added on how we should not be spreading false information as doing so can have a great impact on media users.
As for Liz, she shared that she learned more information regarding digital literacy.
“From what sir Howie said, we should always learn how to upskill because the internet is a limitless space.” Liz said. “If we can’t catch up with technology we should at least learn how to improve our knowledge to be able to catch up.” She added.
Pia had also stated the same thing, sharing that she learned a lot from the discussion conducted by Howie Severino.
“What I’ve learned the most is to research more and don’t believe everything you see in the media. Our generation relies a lot on the use of technology and being smart while using it is a must.” Pia added.
