NETFLIX’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has begun production, giving us a first look at the series and its complete and final cast, July 29.
The six-part series will be based on Dolly Alderton’s screenplay, known for Everything I Know About Love (2022) and Anna Island (2015).
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” said Alderton in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life,” she added.
Early on this year, the main casts were announced. Emma Corrin— who played Anna Harding in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu— will step into the iconic role of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bennet, while Scottish actor Jack Lowden— known for his work in Dunkirk and The Outrun— is set to star opposite her as the cold and restrained Mr. Darcy.
Jane Bennet, Lizzy’s older sister, will be played by Scottish actress Freya Mavor, while Irish actor Daryl McCormack will play Charles Bingley, her love interest.
Rhea Norwood from Heartstopper, musical artist Hopey Parish, and theater actress Hollie Avery will play Lydia, Mary, and Kitty Bennet respectively.
George Wickham— the novel’s antagonist— will be played by Disclaimer’s Louis Patridge.
Welsh film director Euros Lyn will help the project, with the production now ongoing in the UK. An official release date hasn’t yet been announced, but it’s likely to take the screens early next year.
