Nadine Lustre nominated as Movie Actress of the Year at 39th PMPC Star Awards for Movies

by Joanna Deala

NADINE Lustre is vying for another award for her outstanding performance in the 2022 techno-horror film “Deleter.” This time, she got nominated as Movie Actress of the Year by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) for its 39th Star Awards for Movies.

Launched in 1985, the awards ceremony is held annually to recognize outstanding movies and artists in the local film industry. The PMPC released its list of nominees for the 2024 edition of Star Awards for Movies, featuring several films released two years ago like “Deleter.”

In the movie, Lustre played the role of a content moderator named Lyra, whose job is to filter graphic content before it reaches social media platforms. However, sinister events begin to haunt her after her colleague commits suicide. Directed by Mikhail Red, “Deleter” was one of the official entries to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“Deleter” also earned nominations in nine other categories:

  • Movie of the Year
  • Movie Ensemble Acting of the Year
  • Red for Movie Director of the Year
  • Elia Ilano for Movie Child Performer of the Year
  • Ian Alexander Guevara for Movie Cinematographer of the Year
  • Gie Shock Jose for Movie Production Designer of the Year
  • Myka Magsaysay and Paul Sigua for Movie Musical Scorer of the Year
  • Nikolas Red for Movie Editor of the Year
  • Armand De Guzman, Aian Louie Caro, and Russel Gabayeron for Movie Sound Engineer of the Year

“Deleter” dominated the 2022 MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, winning seven awards including Best Actress for Lustre, Best Director for Red, and Best Cinematography for Guevara.

While she took part in the mystery horror movie “Chain Mail” in 2015, “Deleter” was the first horror film topbilled by Lustre and her first movie collaboration with Red.

The actress and the internationally acclaimed director teamed up again for another horror film, “Nokturno,” inspired by Philippine folklore. “Nokturno” is now available on streaming service Prime Video.

Lustre is also participating in the upcoming 50th edition of MMFF through the thriller film “Uninvited,” along with Vilma Santos, Aga Muhlach, and Mylene Dizon.
