My Chemical Romance to Release Deluxe Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

by Rescel Ocampo

Killjoys, gear up!

My Chemical Romance is marking 21 years of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge with a deluxe edition drop on June 6 — a nod to the album that launched a thousand eyeliner pens and defined emo for a generation.

Based on the band’s Instagram post, the deluxe edition features a fresh mix by Rich Costey, a GRAMMY-winning producer.

It also features four bonus tracks from a 2005 BBC Radio 1 The Lock Up session, including unreleased live recordings of I’m Not Okay (I Promise), Helena, The Ghost of You, and You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison.

It is set for release on digital platforms, CD, and an array of limited-edition vinyl formats.

The deluxe edition also features a striking new visual identity and a collector’s twist— a three-sided vinyl pressing, with the fourth side featuring a custom etching.

They also unveiled a newly restored, high-definition version of their classic I’m Not Okay (I Promise) music video.

Since its debut in 2004, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge has racked up more than 7 million sales globally. It reached platinum status in under a year and has since gone triple platinum.

The album has been recognized as a defining release in the emo genre. NME included it in their list of “20 Emo Albums That Have Resolutely Stood the Test of Time,” and Rolling Stone ranked it as the tenth greatest emo album of all time.

This release lands just as the band prepares to hit the road again for their sold-out  Long Live: The Black Parade stadium tour across North America.
