‘Moving’ star Ryu Seungryong joins new drama ‘Low Life’ on Disney+

by Joanna Deala

SOUTH Korean actor Ryu Seungryong, who led the cast of the award-winning supernatural action series “Moving,” is returning to Disney+ as one of the cast of a new treasure-hunting crime drama.

Titled “Low Life,” this 1970s-set crime series follows Oh Gwanseok and Oh Heedong, an uncle and nephew who tries to recover the rumored sunken treasure from an ancient treasure ship that has been discovered off the coast of Korea.

Disney+ Philippines has released a teaser trailer for the forthcoming series, showing how alliances and betrayal arise as other opportunists also attempt to locate the underwater fortune.

Ryu, who also starred in the 2024 South Korean comedy mystery series “Chicken Nugget,” gives life to the character of Gwanseok, while actor Yang Sejong, known for his roles in K-dramas “Doona!” and “Temperature of Love,” portrays Heedong.

They are joined by actress Lim Soojung, from “Melancholia” and “Single in Seoul,” playing the role of Yang Jungsook.

“Low Life” is written and directed by Kang Yunsung, who helmed Disney+’s crime-action series “Big Bet” and the hit South Korean crime-action film “The Outlaws.”

The 11-part series will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on July 16 with its first three episodes. Two episodes will be released every week thereafter until a two-part finale on August 13.

“Low Life” is the latest Korean original title on Disney+, joining “A Shop for Killers,” “Nine Puzzles,” “Tempest,” and “The Remarried Empress.”

Disney+ noted its viewers’ growing interest in the Korean crime series in 2025 alone, including the medical crime thriller series “Hyper Knife” and the mystery crime thriller drama “Nine Puzzles.”

“Tempest,” starring Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon, and John Cho; and “Made In Korea,” starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woosung, will debut on Disney+ later this year.
