THE 2023 METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL broke box office records by earning P1.069 billion in gross receipts.
MMDA acting chairman Atty. Don Artes said that the ten movies in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival set a new record using only 800 cinemas.
He compared it to the 2018 MMFF movies where it was said to be shown in 1,200 cinemas.
Artes stated that there will be an exchange of ideas and knowledge sharing on where they hope to bridge the gap and connect the Philippine entertainment industry with Hollywood and the International stage.
He also encouraged filmmakers to create better films for the MMFF’s 50th edition.
MMFF consultant and spokesperson Winston Emano said that MIFF intends to continue the wonderful momentum that was built by the Metro Manila Film Festival with a similar goal of uplifting and giving a bigger spotlight to Filipino cinema worldwide.
MMFF spokesperson Noel Ferrer thanked viewers for reaching the box office gross of the 49th MMFF reaching 1 Billion. “ISANG BILYONG PASASALAMAT … We have reached the 1 BILLION MARK sa box office gross ng 49th METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL,” He stated.
MMDA had also announced on X that the MMFF movie screening would be extended until January 14.

Meanwhile, the MMFF is also preparing a student short film caravan called “Cine 50” n where the top 50 movies of the past 49 years will be screened in the cinemas for the price of 50 pesos.
