A mini zoo in Masbate City recently received massive backlash after a live cat was filmed inside a python’s cage. 

The viral video shows a dampened, injured-looking cat sitting next to a big python. People suspected that the owner of the mini zoo is using live cats to feed the python. 

Netizens were alarmed by this move but have also expressed their concern for the python due to its malnourished appearance. 

The mini zoo owner has denied the allegations, telling GMA’s State of The Nation that it was the zoo visitor who placed the cat there for a video. 

“Wala akong kasalanan dahil yung tao na naglagay noon doon, ang purpose siguro niya ilagay doon kasi vlogger siya,” said mini zoo owner Fructosa Perez.

Meanwhile, the uploader claimed that the owner had twisted the story, adding that the residents of Masbate were aware of the real situation. 

“Nabaliktad pa ang kwento. By the way, may video ako na may hawak siya na hose, he can’t deny. And alam lahat ng taga-Masbate na pusa talaga pinapakain. Even my friend, kasi since elem daw bumibili sila sa mga bata [kuting] He also said that two days na ang pusa sa cage,” the uploader said. 

After the video went viral, the Office of the City Veterinarian and Provincial Veterinarian investigated and found that the mini zoo had no permit and was previously disapproved for an application for Amusement Establishment in 2018. 

No cat was also found within the python’s cage. 

The zoo has since been shut down and the animals handed over to the proper authorities.
