FOLLOWING the unveiling of the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) new logo last Friday, March 7; many netizens expressed their judgments towards the new design.
Following its 43rd anniversary, the MIAA recreated a new design for their logo; presenting the celebration of the “first such occasion since the shift of its mandate from operator to regulator of the country’s main gateway, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.”
In the new logo, a graphic of the Philippine Eagle and the elements of the Philippine flags became the highlight of the new design.
MIAA listed the breakdown of the new logo; describing each choice of graphics and colors and how it relates to the Filipinos.
Upon releasing the new logo to the public, majority of Filipino netizens weren’t pleased with the new look of MIAA’s logo; drawing criticism on the Facebook post made by the agency.
As of writing, the Facebook post had garnered over 5,600 reactions with the majority of them going with the “haha” react emoji.
Netizens immediately went to the comment section and proceeded to throw criticism on the new design.
One netizen expressed how the previous logo of the MIAA looked so much better than the new one, meanwhile, a netizen asked how much the new logo design cost.

One netizen simply said that the design is “very elementary,” while the other commented on the Facebook post to bring back the old design as it look more modern.

Recently a post by Multimedia artist Christian San Jose went viral after writing about the new logo of MIAA. San Jose noted on how he won first place during the time that the MIAA held a logo-making contest in 2023.
“Sobrang disappointing.. Actually, MIAA conducted a logo making contest back in 2023 and I won the 1st place. Not that much yung prize but then I’m happy with it since maraming nag join after that wala akong naging update sa logo na nagawa ko and now lalabas to.. Anong sense nung awarding?”
The MIAA has since then limited those who can comment on the post.
MIAA’s rehabilitation project
After winning the bidding in February 2024, the airport’s operations were taken over on September 14 by the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation; a conglomerate headed by San Miguel Corporation.
The first order that the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) will focus on is to rehabilitate the airport such as expanding Terminals 2 and 3 and adapting Terminal 4 into an office and warehouse.
The rehabilitation project is also looking to build a three-story Airport Express Hotel adjacent to the north wing or Terminal 2 for those who have early morning departures and for those who miss their connecting flights.
A planned access towards Terminal 2 north wing will also be constructed once the expansion is completed.
For this project, the NNIC is expended to spend over P200 billion for the concession along with the P122.3 billion capital outlay, the P30 Filipino upfront payment, and the P2 billion fixed annual payment.
The share of its gross revenue with the government is also set at 82.16%.
The NNIC has also signed the concession agreement with the government the following month. Their contract set at 15 years and can be extended up to 10 years.
