Marina Summers bags third win in “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs The World”

by Deanna Macaranas AND Gaby Agbulos

OUR Filipina drag queen can’t stop winning!

In the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. The World,” the runway followed a “Business in the Front, Party in the Back” theme. Marina was quick to impress the judges with her look, and Filipinos cheered as drag queen Marina Summers won yet another RuBadge on Rupaul’s Drag Race UK, which means has the most number of wins thus far.

In the front, the Filipina drag queen slayed her black coordinated business suit with a noticeable winged-liked accessory attached to her top.

“This look is serving CEO—I’m not giving you power shoulders, I’m giving you SUPERPOWER shoulders,” Marina said about her look.

When RuPaul asked Marina to show them the “party in the back,” a makeshift karaoke was revealed.

Marina asked the judges if she wanted to sing her lyrics with RuPaul, and she responded with, “No, not without auto-tune.”

This served as a subtle shoutout to her culture as karaoke is something Filipinos often do as a means of bonding together.

“Knowing Filipino people–there is one thing that they don’t play with, and that is karaoke,” one of the judges said. “And I love that you brought that your outfit,” she added.

On Instagram, Marina shared a post of her outfit. She said in the caption that she was thrilled to share her look on the runway and that this is one of the most complicated things she’s ever done so far.

She thanked Neric Beltran, who made the custom piece.

In the same episode, Marina was paired with Australian drag queen Hannah Conda for the dancing challenge.

The pair won and then competed against each other by doing a lip sync of Agnes’ “Release Me.”

Marina received another RuPeter badge, making her the leading recipient of the coveted badge.

It wasn’t Marina’s first time to win in the show. Just a week ago, she bagged her second win in the show’s Rusical episode, wherein she was tasked to write a verse for their musical rendition of “Six,” entitled, “Seven: Confessions of a Drag Queen.” Winning the Rusical episode made her the first queen to obtain two RuPeter badges.

In that episode, RuPaul praised Marina, telling her how she was born to be on stage and how she was meant to do drag.

RuPaul’s statement made the queen emotional.

She previously amazed the judges with her “AMAFILIPINA” performance with her own version of Maymay Entrata’s “Amakabogera.”

Marina first made an unforgettable entrance with her Filipiniana-inspired outfit. Her iconic line, “It’s time to give these colonizers the chop,” was born during this episode.

Her unforgettable entrance was applauded by singer and actress Lea Salonga and Filipino-American influencer Bretman Rock.

Marina is the only Asian representative in “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. The World” season 2. She is also the first Filipina drag queen to represent the country in the international edition of the Emmy award-winning show.

The winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Show: UK vs. The World” is set to take home 50,000 pounds.

About Marina

Marina Summers is a queen popular for her tropical-themed looks and stellar performances. She moved from Nueva Vizcaya to Manila to pursue her dream of content creation, and would then start releasing iconic singles like “I Have Arrived” only a few years later.

She is best known for the drop-dead gorgeous looks and the fierce competition she brought onto the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Philippines.

On the show, she won a total of two challenges, and constantly wowed the judges with her runway looks and with her talent in both singing and dancing. Seemingly a jack of all trades, there really is nothing this Filipina winner can’t do.

Unsurprisingly, she made it to the finals of the show, wherein she unfortunately lost to her former drag mother Xilhouete and fellow drag queen Precious Paula Nicole.

Regardless, she stayed a fan favorite for many Filipinos, and has only continued to do her best on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
Her kababayans are watching her intently, supporting her from her hometown as they hope she will continue to dominate with every episode yet to come.
