Maki, Angela Ken, Nhiko Release Collab ‘Sikulo’

by RepublicAsia

OPM’s rising talents Maki, Angela Ken, and Nameless Kids’ Nhiko Sabiniano have joined forces to release their fan’s most anticipated song collaboration titled “Sikulo,” under ABS-CBN’s Tarsier Records.

“Sikulo” touches on the crippling journey of two lovers who find themselves stuck in a seemingly endless loop, running around in circles.

“No matter how many times you try to forget about the details of what happened, you can’t help but go back and try to rewrite the situation like your life depends on it,” Maki wrote in a caption of his TikTok post.

The alternative-pop track co-written by Maki, Angela, and Nhiko paints the painful reality of the inevitable end of a relationship that leaves you questioning the “What ifs?”

Fans have been awaiting the collaboration since Maki posted a picture with Angela Ken on his Instagram account earlier this month. Three days before the song’s official release, Maki leaked a voice memo in a deleted IG post of a potential collaboration with the speculated Angela Ken.

The “Saan” singer took to Instagram Live with Angela and Nhiko in an attempt to distract his fans from the incident, however, Nhiko teased with more snippets of the song. Fans joked #MakiLagot #AngelaAnoYon #NhikoLabasMoNa on X as the Tarsier Records team warned the trio about the song leak.

Maki has been breaking through the Filipino music industry with his soulful vocals and authentic songwriting. The heart-wrenching collaborative single follows Maki’s previous release “HBD” which has reached over one million streams on Spotify. Meanwhile, his EP “Tanong” has garnered almost 90 million streams on the same platform alone.

Angela Ken, who initially rose to popularity on TikTok, is another promising artist recognized for her emotive performances and versatile musicality. Angela’s contribution to “Sikulo” trails after her late last year’s release “Alas Diyes,” a track co-produced by Nhiko and ABS-CBN Music’s creative director Jonathan Manalo. Angela made her theatre debut in the recently concluded musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”

Meanwhile, Nhiko Sabiniano is a member of the indie-pop band Nameless Kids, known for their experimental sounds and infectious melodies. The ensemble made waves as they continued solidifying their presence in the indie music scene with their January release, “Still So In Love.”

Maki and Nhiko previously collaborated on “Saan?,” Maki’s chart-topping hit which has amassed over 65 million streams on Spotify.
