Has someone been running through your mind lately? You would probably miss them more if you listened to the new version of the song Raining in Manila.
Filipino indie band Lola Amour has released an “ambon” version of their hit song via its YouTube account.
“Raining in Manila Ambon Version: Para mahina lang ang ulan haha,” the band wrote in the caption.
While the original arrangement of the song gives off an upbeat and jazzy vibe, the new version gives off a slow, mellow vibe.
The new arrangement was performed live by Pio Dumayas (vocals), David Yuchico (piano), and Jeff Abueg (Clarinet).
First released in June 2023, Raining in Manila was composed by Yuchico. It was the first song he wrote for Lola Amour since he joined them in 2021.
The hit song speaks about waiting for someone they long for, even if they will no longer come back.
The chorus goes, “Cause, it’s been raining in Manila, hindi ka ba nilalamig?; Mahirap bang mag-isang nanginginig?; And it’s been raining in Manila, hindi ka ba nilalamig; ’Pag wala ang mga tala? Oh-oh; Madilim ba ang mundo?”
The band previously revealed that the first draft of Raining in Manila was originally written in English, which is “completely different” from the released one.
Raining in Manila’s popularity
The song hits listeners right in the heart with its sincere and relatable lyrics. It gained more popularity, especially among the young generation, when the song was incorporated into memes.
On TikTok, many netizens use the track as background music in videos showing flood-hit areas when a tropical cyclone lashes the country.
