Filipinos have long been known for the impeccable level of artistry they put into their films, depicting the struggles as well as the innate talent of Filipinos when it comes to filmmaking.
Time and time again, the Philippines has shown that the films it produces are on par with those from other countries, yet seldom is it shown the same love as that which is received by Western Hollywood films.
One reason for this is accessibility; given the number of streaming sites people have access to nowadays, it’s extremely easy to watch Western movies online without having to pay a cent.
Pair that with the rising prices for films in cinemas, wherein the lowest price to watch a movie is often PHP 300, and it’s no surprise that there are fewer moviegoers buying tickets for local films.
This is why many have shown great appreciation for the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) after announcing “Sine Singkwenta: Pelikula ng Bayan,” an event that will be screening different local films in cinemas across Metro Maila.
This event, presented by the FDCP in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, SM Cinema, Robinsons Movieworld, and Ayala Malls Cinemas, will feature the following films:
- Little Azkals
- Iskalawags
- Cleaners
- Huwebes Huwebes
- Tu Pug Imatuy
These films will be shown at the following cinemas:
Given its affordable price, both old and new audiences are encouraged to watch these films, whether it be to see them in cinemas once again or for the first time.
That’s not the only treat the FDCP has for Filipinos, though.
Pamanang Pelikula
Last September 16, the FDCP also announced that as part of the year’s Philippine Film Industry Month, they would be streaming several iconic films from National Artists for Film and Broadcast on JuanFlix: The FDCP Channel.
