AS the country commemorates its 127th Independence Day, Filipinos will once again be reminded of the two heroes who fought and gave their lives for Philippine independence.
Production company TBA Studios announced that several local cinemas will bring back Filipino epic war movies “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” starting June 12, coinciding with this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Tickets cost P150 for each movie.
“Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” will be screened only on June 12 in the following malls:
- Robinsons Galleria Ortigas
- Robinsons Manila
- Robinsons Antipolo
- Shangri-La Red Carpet Cinemas
- Fishermall QC
- Fishermall Malabon
- Sta Lucia
Meanwhile, the two films will be screened from June 12 to 15 in movie houses at these shopping centers:
- SM Cinema North EDSA
- SM Cinema Mall of Asia
- SM Cinema Fairview
“Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” which premiered in 2015 and 2018, respectively, were the first two installments of the “Bayaniverse” trilogy.
Starring veteran actor John Arcilla, “Heneral Luna” follows the titular character General Antonio Luna, who led the Philippine Revolutionary Army during the early phases of the Philippine-American War. He was assassinated in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija in 1899 by fellow Filipino soldiers believed to be men of the Philippines’s first president, Emilio Aguinaldo.
Following Luna’s death, “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” came into the picture, centering on a young brigadier general named Gregorio “Goyo” del Pilar. Played by Paulo Avelino, del Pilar is mandated by Aguinaldo to hunt down Luna’s loyalists who have been charged with treason.
“Quezon,” the third “Bayaniverse” movie, will now revolve around the life of former Philippine president Manuel L. Quezon, portrayed by actor Jericho Rosales. TBA Studios announced that “Quezon” will premiere in Philippine cinemas this year.
