STREAMING platform Disney+ has announced that the popular Korean web novel and webtoon series “The Remarried Empress” will be adapted into a live-action series, featuring a star-studded cast led by Ju Ji Hoon and Shin Mina.

Based on the hit webtoon of the same name, which has over 2.6 billion views to date, “The Remarried Empress” follows Navier, a perfect empress who is shocked when her husband returns home with his mistress and demands a divorce.

To prevent the emperor from ruining her life, Navier proposes that she consent to the divorce in exchange for marrying a rival prince from the Western Kingdom, sparking a political intrigue, romance, and a fight to reclaim her stolen power.

Mina, known for her role in the 2021 romantic-comedy drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” portrays Empress Navier in the forthcoming romantic fantasy series.

Meanwhile, Ji Hoon, who has played acclaimed roles in various K-dramas including “Princess Hours,” “Lightshop Keeper,” and “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,” plays the role of Emperor Sovieshu of the Eastern Empire.

Joining the two are Lee Jong Suk as Heinrey, the crown prince of the Western Kingdom who has a hidden secret, and Lee Seyoung as Rashta, a former runaway slave-turned-concubine of Emperor Sovieshu who eyes the position of Empress Navier.

Jong Suk has starred in several hit South Korean series, including “W,” “While You Were Sleeping,” “Romance Is a Bonus Book,” and “Big Mouth.” Disney+ recently announced that the actor will star in the new Korean legal drama, “Law and The City.

Seyoung, on the other hand, is recognized for her acting chops in Korean dramas “What Comes After Love,” “The Red Sleeve,” and “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract.”

Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol, who worked together in the fantasy thriller series “The Uncanny Counter, will adapt “The Remarried Empress” for streaming. It will be directed by Cho Suwon, who helmed the romance K-dramas “Still 17” and “Pinocchio.”

Further details about the live-action adaptation, including its premiere date on Disney+, have yet to be announced.

“The Remarried Empress” is the latest to join the new slate of Korean original titles on Disney+, which include the second season of “A Shop for Killers,” “Nine Puzzles,” “Low Life,” and “Tempest.”
