DID you miss out on one of these Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 films on the cinema screens?
Don’t worry! You can now watch it on your own screens as they are coming to online streaming.
Eight out of 10 movies from the MMFF 2023 will be available for streaming online on Netflix and Prime Video.
Prime Video announced on social media that the MMFF 2023 Best Picture “Firefly” will be available on their platform starting April 30.
“There are stories that will live in our hearts forever. #Firefly, starring #AlessandraDeRossi and #EuwennMikaell, is coming this April 30 on Prime Video,” they said on a Facebook post.
Directed by Zig Dulay, “Firefly” tells the story of Tonton (Euwenn Mikaell) and his journey to the mythical island of fireflies based on his mother Elay’s (Alessandra De Rossi) bedtime stories. This film bagged the Best Picture award, the Best Child Performer trophy for its lead star Mikaell, and Best Screenplay.
Moreover, three out of 10 movies from MMFF 2023 are now streaming on Netflix, while there are four more arriving soon!
Here are the release dates of the following MMFF 2023 films on Netflix:
“Rewind” (March 25, 2024)
First on the list is “Rewind,” which is currently the country’s highest-grossing film of all time at P902 million. This drama led by real-life couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes is now available to stream on the platform.
“Rewind’’ tells the story of John, played by Dantes, a man given the rare opportunity to go back in time to restore his broken relationship with his childhood friend turned wife, Mary, played by Rivera. The film centers on family and marriage, tackling compromise, career growth, and adult priorities.
“Becky and Badette” (April 4, 2024)
Directed by Jun Lana, “Becky & Badette” won Best Original Theme Song for “Finggah Lickin,” sung by Eugene Domingo.
The movie tells the story of two high-school best friends played by comediennes Domingo and Pokwang as Becky and Badette. They try to make ends meet, clocking day in and day out, and dream of opportunities to finally reach their chosen career.
One day, they become famous after writing a made-up story and this is where their story begins.
“Gomburza” (April 9, 2024)
Dante Rivero, Cedric Juan and Enchong Dee star as Padre Mariano Gomez, Padre José Burgos and Padre Jacinto Zamora respectively in this historical-biographical film following the lives of three Filipino Roman-Catholic priests (known as GomBurZa). They were executed in 1872 during the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines on suspicion of sedition, triggering the start of the revolution.
“Kampon” (April 16, 2024)
Directed by King Palisoc, this movie unravels a chilling tale of family secrets and the supernatural.
“Kampon” tells the story of a childless, eight-years married couple named Clark, played by Derek Ramsay, and Eileen, played by Beauty Gonzales.
Their lives change when a girl named Jade (played by Erin Espiritu) turns up at their home claiming to be Clark’s daughter. As Jade is temporarily accepted into their home, supernatural occurrences transpire.
“Family of Two” (June 1, 2024)
“Family of Two,” directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval, is about a single mother and her son. The film revolves around a worried Mateo, a son who seeks to find a male partner for his single mother.
Mateo, played by Alden Richards, is planning to move to Singapore with his girlfriend Czarina, played by Miles Ocampo, but worries about leaving his widowed mother Maricar (Sharon Cuneta) behind.
“Penduko” (June 7, 2024)
“Penduko” is a remake of the beloved franchise. In this new film version of the iconic comic-book character starring Matteo Guidicelli, Pedro, a supernaturally gifted young man who goes to Metro Manila to seek a better life, journeys back to his province and ultimately joins a group of unlikely heroes, along with the unexpected supernatural powers he inherited from his ancestors.
“Mallari” (June 21, 2024)
Directed by Roderick Cabrido, “Mallari” centers around the fictional descendant of Fr. Severino Mallari, infamously known as the first recorded serial killer in the Philippines.
Starring Piolo Pascual as Jonathan, the film weaves the stories of the Mallari men across three generations, mixed in with a generous dose of terror and horrors.
Jonathan is driven by his own quest to find a cure for his dying girlfriend Agnes (Janella Salvador), and delves into the motivations behind his ancestor’s early 1800s murders. His search leads him to their ancestral home where he discovers not what he’s looking for, but generations’ worth of curse.
