SOUTH Korean actress Lee Sung Kyung, best known for her award-winning roles in the hit series “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo” and “Dr. Romantic,” will return to the small screen for a new romantic drama with actor Lee Dong Wook.
Global streaming platform Disney+ revealed that the pair will star in “The Nice Guy,” a 14-part K-drama about a changed gangster who is trying to leave his troubled past behind.
Dong Wook will portray Seokcheol, the eldest grandson of a family of gangsters who secretly dreams of becoming an author like the American novelist and short-story writer Ernest Hemingway.
However, Seokcheol will be caught between his love for his family and his desire for something more when he crosses paths with his first love, Miyoung, an aspiring singer who suffers from stage fright.
Sung Kyung will play the role of Miyoung in the forthcoming series.
Disney+ has also released a 33-second teaser trailer of “The Nice Guy,” showing Seokcheol meeting Miyoung at a coffee shop. It also showed glimpses of Seokcheol’s past marred by violence.
“The Nice Guy” is directed by Song Haesung, who helmed the 2013 comedy-drama film “Boomerang Family.” The new romance K-drama is written by Kim Woonkyung and Kim Hyoseok, known for their works in “Yuna’s Street” and “Yadang: The Snitch,” respectively.
The series will be available on Disney+ starting July 18.
