Lechon, ham prices goes up days before Christmas

by Kiko Cueto

LECHON is still the star of the Noche buena feast.

But with a few days left before Christmas, you’ll have to start paying extra as they are now more costly.

At La Loma, the known lechon capital in Metro Manila, a lechon that is good for 15 persons has gone up to P7,500 from the previous P6,000.

“Mabenta po kasi ngayon ang lechon,” Ned Boy Torrers explained.

A big sized lechon is now reaching at  P25,500.

“Tumaas nang konti kasi ‘yung mga suppliers namin tumaas din ang presyo,” Minda Atim said said in an interview TV station GMA.

Atim said that there is a bigger variety usually comes with free dishes such as dinuguan, bopis and lechon paksiw.

Nevertheless, people still buy lechon as for them, Noche buena without it is incomplete.

Another customer, Chato Obrador, went to La Loma from Batangas to buy lechon even just a kilo or two.

“We don’t have budget for a whole lechon so we will just buy several kilos,” she said.

The price per kilo of the meat can go as high as P1,500.

Meanwhile, the price of ham went up by seven percent. A kilo of Chinese ham costs P1,880 from a popular store in Quiapo, Manila.

A scrap ham was being sold at P1,640 per kilo.
